As a member of the Upper Harbour Local Board, Kyle is incredibly proud of his achievements on the board. There is still a lot more he wants to achieve for the community. As part of the board he has driven forward community aspirations.
Upper Harbour Local Board Achievments 2022-2025
🚸 School Safety Initiatives
- Implemented safety measures so our children can walk to school safely
- Scott Point – pedestrian crossing on Clark Road
- Albany Junior High School – Kea crossing to be installed
- Pinehill School – slow signs and safety improvements
- Marina View School – safe crossing to be installed on Picasso Drive
- Upper Harbour Primary School – completed the Kyle Road footpath
🌱 Environmental & Conservation
- Increased funding to local environmental organisations particularly the Upper Waitemata Ecology Network, resulting in more trees being planted and pests being removed
- Delivered the pest free strategy which is currently used by community groups to prioritise their pest control
- Planted hundreds of specimen trees as part of Ngahere Strategy and funded thousands of restoration plants that volunteers planted
- Installed drinking fountains at many reserves
🏛️ Community Services & Safety
- Emergency resilience work including supporting communities to build their own resiliency networks and know what to do
- Increased funding for crime prevention including Community Patrol (North and West), Pacifica Wardens and community education
- Delivered the Ethnic People's Plan to meet the needs of our growing culturally diverse community
- Funded governance training for our community partners
🏃♂️ Sports & Recreation
- Supported provision of indoor sports facilities in Albany, Hobsonville and Whenuapai
- Planning for region wide investment through sport and facilities plan
- Purchased modular pump track to move around Upper Harbour
- More money to improve seating and amenity in our reserves
- Started a playground shade program to provide shade at select playgrounds
🎨 Community Events & Culture
- More fun and vibrant events in Upper Harbour, including Open Art Studios, Youth Art Exhibition, World of Play, etc.
🚴♂️ Transport & Infrastructure
- Adopted the Local Parks Management Plan
- Supported the new AT methodology of delivering safety on bikes at lower cost including:
- Shared path on Oteha Valley Road
- Shared path on Hobsonville Road
 
Achievements by Area
Kyle has worked hard to deliver specific improvements for each community within Upper Harbour. Here are some of the key achievements in each area:
🏛️ Albany
- Albany Library. Drove progress towards a new library including funding of geotechnic work and a spatial plan.
- Instrumental in saving the North Harbour Stadium from an uncertain future.
- Increased funding and continued support for Harbour Sport to run the Albany Hub.
- Pop-up business school. Supporting local entrepreneurship.
- Rosedale Park. Instigated a tree management plan which will result in removal of dangerous trees and replacement with more trees overall.
- New program to identify and educate any industrial polluters into streams in Rosedale.
- Walkway upgrades in:
- Fernhill Escarpment
- Gills Scenic Reserve
- Gills Reserve
- Northwood Reserve
- The Landing Reserve
 
- Upgrade of Bushlands Reserve Playground and Ponderosa Reserve Playground
- Renewal of Albany Coronation Hall.
- Wayfinding signage installed walkways in Pinehill.
- Funding to the Harbour Sports Hub Trust to progress an indoor court facility.
🚌 Fairview Heights
- Advocated for the successful implementation of the 888 bus around Fairview Heights, where previously there was no bus.
- Family play day and consultation about a new nature play area to be built in 2025 / 2026.
🌳 Greenhithe
- Walkway from carpark to playground planned at the War Memorial Park playground.
- Playground upgrade at Collins park, including accessible items.
- Planning underway for a new basketball court in Greenhithe.
- Funding to community organisations to provide much needed community facilities:
- the roof on the Old School Building
- Taihinu Sea Scouts for a storage facility
- Greenhithe Tennis Club to replace a dangerous deck
 
- Increased funding and continued support for Greenhithe Community Trust
🏘️ Hobsonville
- Funded a new community activator who listens, encourages and advocates for Scott Point.
- New program to identify and educate any industrial polluters into streams in Hobsonville.
- Continued support and funding for Connected Neighbourhoods Trust.
- Funding towards Diwali Festival.
- Delivered Te Kori Scott Point stage 1, and we ensuring remaining funding goes to what the community needs the most, not just more sportsfields.
- Observation Green Playground. Listened to the community demand for a playground, completed and delivered it.
- Working with neighbouring local boards on delivery of a Northwest Pool
- Facilities grants to the Upper Waitemata Marine Centre for improvements.
- Grants to the Kaipatiki Project Engine Testing Bay Nursery and to the Catalina Community Gardens.
🥾 Paremoremo
- Delivered upgrades to the walking trails at Sanders Reserve.
- Delivered the long awaited mountain bike trails at Sanders Reserve.
- Delivered an upgrade and reopening of the Paremoremo Scenic Reserve walking trail.
- Renewal of Sanders House.
- Renewal and painting of the kiosk at Sanders Reserve.
🐕 Rosedale
- Dog agility park in Rosedale to be completed in 2025.
- Grants to the Rosedale Sports Charitable Trust to replace the clubhouse spouting.
- Grants to Harbour Softball to replace their aging and failing roof.
- Started planning the upgrade of the lighting and sportsfields at Rosedale Park.
⚽ Unsworth Heights
- Delivery of Caribbean Drive Sportsfield including toilet, walking path, lighting and all weather sportsfield.
- Renewal and rerouting of the storm affected pathway in Unsworth Reserve.
- Completed delivery of upgraded playground at Devonshire Reserve.
- Meadowood Reserve playground upgrade scheduled for 2025/2026.
- Grants provided to upgrade the cushion fall at the junior playground at Meadowood House.
- Increased funding and continued support for Meadowood House
🛹 West Harbour
- Planning for the upgrade of the Luckens Reserve playground facility is underway
- Upgrade of the skate facilities at Luckens Reserve is planned
- The replacement of the walkway through Luckins Reserve to the harbour will begin in 2025.
🏊♂️ Whenuapai and Herald Island
- Funded a new community activator who listens, encourages and advocates for Whenuapai.
- Masterplanning for Whenuapai sportsfields, making sure they include space for youth, community and sports of all kinds, not just open fields.
- Advocated successfully to the governing body for better planning in Whenuapai which has resulted in the structure plan being updated. This will guide development in a sensible and planned manner.
- Increased funding to the restoration of Waiarohia Stream which is a vital green space in Whenuapai.
- Toilet in Whenuapai town park. Listened to the community demand and delivered.
- Seating and table in Kopuru Reserve.
- Installed a new play area at Tamiro Road Reserve increasing play options for all ages.
- Lighting on Kingsway Road as requested by the community.
- Completion of upgrade at Herald Island Domain Playground.
- Working with neighbouring local boards on delivery of a Northwest Pool.
